The Jobs Are Here!

Graduating seniors from Colonel Richardson and North Caroline high schools participated in the first annual “The Jobs Are Here!” hiring event on May 23, 2019.

The hiring event was a partnership with Caroline County Public Schools and Caroline County Recreation and Parks.

Approximately 60 students came prepared to meet 17 local businesses and learn about job opportunities available upon graduation. The businesses were from diverse sectors – manufacturing, retail, fulfillment, hospitality and recreation, education, and medical support – all with a need for employees.

The soon-to-be graduates filled out applications on the spot or were given instructions on how to complete on-line applications. First interviews were held at the event. Several of the participating businesses invited the students for interviews the following day. It was an experiential learning opportunity for the students entering the workforce.

The success of the event depended on the partnership of Caroline County Public Schools and the business community. The graduates received guidance in preparing a resume, completing an application, and conduct during an interview. They arrived at the hiring event as young, eager professionals. The participating companies supported the effort by providing valuable information on the jobs and mentoring the applicants.

The hiring event brought together employees and employers to help fill a workforce need. However, there are still hundreds of jobs available in Caroline County. For information on available positions at all skill and pay levels, contact Caroline County Economic Development at 410-479-4188.
