Choptank Transport is Caroline County’s fastest growing company. They recently completed their second major expansion project within just five years at their Preston headquarters. Choptank leveraged local and state incentives for both projects. The company has grown to more than 200 employees in Preston alone since its launch in 2000.
Choptank Transport is a third-party logistics (3PL) company that specializes in truckload, refrigerated, and frozen freight. In addition to Preston, Choptank has four other locations throughout the U.S. with plans to open more offices in the near future.
As its business has grown, Choptank has made significant investments in developing the local logistics workforce. They are actively involved with the Salisbury University Perdue School of Business, and have also helped advise the local school system on its business programs for high school students. Choptank’s most recent expansion included a training facility with top-of-the-line technology. Tri-Gas & Oil is a family-owned business and leading fuel supplier throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. The company serves residential, commercial, and agricultural customers. TG&O’s product lines include propane, conventional heating oil, kerosene, diesel, bio-diesel, and other alternative fuels.
Throughout its 50-year history, TG&O has seen steady growth. Recently, the company sought to acquire new rail access in order to expand its supply and distribution network to keep pace with customer demands. TG&O contacted CCED for help, and we worked together to secure a rail siding within 15 miles of TG&O headquarters.
Adding additional rail service to TG&O’s distribution system has allowed the company to increase its market share and geographic reach. The company is also growing its service business at a robust pace through acquisitions and organic growth.
