About Two Lights for Tomorrow
The Caroline County Economic Development & Tourism office invites you to join us in the Two Lights for Tomorrow campaign, a nationwide initiative to illuminate households, businesses, public buildings, government offices, and places of worship with two lights starting April 18, 2025, and lasting throughout the weekend.
Two Lights for Tomorrow commences the 250th anniversary of the founding of our nation. Paul Revere’s ride took place overnight on April 18 – 19, 1775, and this campaign commemorates that famous ride using the imagery of that shining light as a call to action for unity and service. It serves as a reminder of the importance of coming together to form a more perfect Union.
“One if by land, and two if by sea”
The famous ride followed a light signal orchestrated by Revere, “one if by land, two if by sea,” to warn of the approach of British troops toward Concord, Massachusetts, where colonial arms and munitions were held. When British troops advanced by water on the Charles River, and two lights were hung from the steeple of the Old North Church in Boston, patriots and minutemen were then called to action to prevent the British advance. The following morning, April 19th, minutemen met the British troops at the Lexington Green, where the “shot heard ‘round the world” began the Revolutionary War.

How to Participate
Everyone is invited to participate! All you have to do is display two lights in your homes, community site, or building April 18, 2025 to commemorate our constant endeavor as a nation to work together for a better tomorrow! Post your photos of your two lights on social media with the hashtag #TwoLightsforCaroline.
