Maryland Opens Application Period for Commercial and Canopy Solar Grants
The Maryland Energy Administration (MEA) has announced $13 million in grant funding to help Maryland businesses and nonprofit organizations expand the use of solar energy—cutting electricity costs while reducing emissions.
What the program supports
Through the FY26 Commercial and Canopy Solar Program, eligible projects may include rooftop-mounted solar, ground-mounted solar, and solar canopies installed over parking areas (and certain bodies of water).
MEA notes the program is designed to help organizations better manage energy expenses—often one of their largest operating costs—while advancing Maryland’s clean energy and greenhouse gas reduction goals.
Funding source
These grants are funded through Maryland’s Strategic Energy Investment Fund (SEIF), which reinvests proceeds from greenhouse-gas emissions allowance auctions and certain utility compliance payments into programs that help reduce energy bills, minimize energy waste, and support jobs and resiliency.
