Attractions
Martinak State Park, located in Denton, sits along the Choptank River, the largest of the Eastern Shore tributaries of the Chesapeake Bay. The park supports a wide variety of plant and animal life. Hardwood and pine forests surround the park, which offers modern campsites and boating access. Martinak is a haven for bird watchers, who must choose to walk the park's abundant hiking trails or paddle the waterways via canoe.
Tuckahoe State Park, near Hillsboro, provides 4,501 acre setting for hiking, camping, canoeing and fishing. Martinak State Park is 99 acre park near Denton that features camping, fishing, boating, and hunting along the Choptank River. Both Tuckahoe and Marshy Hope Creeks offer hunting, fishing, golf and tennis at various locations.
Adkins Arboretum is a 400-acre native garden and preserve on Maryland’s Eastern Shore dedicated to promoting the appreciation and conservation of the region’s native plants. Four miles of paths along streams, through meadows and native plant gardens and under the shade of a rich bottomland forest attract nature lovers, gardeners, students and birders.
Holiday Park near Greensboro has camping, swimming, hiking trails, tennis and shuffleboard courts. Lake Bonnie near Goldsboro offers camping, swimming, fishing, and boat rentals.
Municipal parks in seven towns all offer field sports. The County owned marina at Choptank has a boat ramp and 70 slips.
There are two publicly-owned marinas, at Denton and Federalsburg with a boat ramp and 23 slips, and public boat ramps at six locations in the County.
The Museum of Rural Life in Denton, the County seat, captures the effects of world events on the people of rural Caroline County over the course of three hundred years.
There are many historic Bed and Breakfasts in the County that offer tranquil lodging and dining on the picturesque Choptank and Tuckahoe Rivers and in the quaint small towns of Denton, Federalsburg and Greensboro.
Special annual events happening in the Caroline County include Summerfest, the Spring Gala, the Strawberry Festival, Greensboro Founder's Day, Greensboro Carnival, and many more.
